Buko Nero
Wow, this is my first time posting 2 posts in a day. Amazing.. Well maybe cos there were 2 parts in this day, thus the 2 posts. The first was before meeting the guys, the second was after dinner.
Before leaving to meet Andy, Jerome, and Aaron, my Sis and I went to Singapore Post to get some letters posted. It was quite a short queue but the aunty in front of us was taking her own time. Not good.. But I figured the guys wouldn't be on time too. Haha.
This is a picture of me and my Sis on the train. She was heading to Plaza Singapura, I was headed for Orchard.
I met the guys to try to shop for Jerome's new pair of shoes. Walked from Pacific Plaza to Lido, and then to Wheelock Place but didn't get much.
Jerome (sorry it's a bit blurry)
Aaron and Andy
Couldn't talk that much cos my health is still bad. Sorry if I wasn't too 'talkative' today, health's really failing, got to see a doctor soon. Only a few know why I'm really sick.
Couldn't bear to leave them but had no choice. Cos Gordon was treating us to dinner! Woohoo! It's been some time and we're going for good Italian food! *drools*
Was a little late by 5 minutes. But my mom got the timing mixed up. It was supposedly 8pm but she thought she reserved for 7.30. Anyway, we went to the newly-opened coffee shop and Gordon actually said 'Kopi-gao'. Amazing. Haha, 2 thumbs up for that Gordon!
Proceeded to the restaurant. A little background about this beautiful restaurant. It's called Buko Nero, and opened to only about 22 seatings per night. Small but very comfortable ambience. The amazing thing is that a husband and wife run the whole restaurant. The husband is an Italian, the wife Singaporean. And I couldn't help but take many glances at her. She is very pretty, little wonder she used to work as an Air Stewardess.
The 5-coursed set dinner is $32++, very reasonable compared to most fine dining restaurants. Really set me thinking. What if, I got married next time.. Opened restaurants, and my wife is working alongside with me. Ahh, it'll be so interesting.
Here is the breakdown of what we had.
Cold Hors D'oeuvre
Beef Carpaccio with Pomelo Dressing
Hot Hors D'oeuvre
Cream of Cauliflower and Crab Meat Soup
Sherbet
Carrot, Orange, and Lime
Main Course
(refer to pictures)
Dessert
Milk Chocolate and Amaretto Cake - Caramel Coulis
Notice I haven't talked about the Main Course. Well, that was because everyone chose to have different Main Courses. Me and my mom had the same, while Gordon and Sarah both had different choices of meat. And the service was so fantastic. Oh yes, if you guys don't already know. You have to book a reservation 2 months in advance before even stepping in here to eat.
Imagine. I have a girlfriend that I want to bring her to Buko Nero. I call up the restaurant for a restaurant in say.. 27th March?!
Goodness.
But it was worth the wait and cash. Everything from the food, to the experience, to the presentation and ambience. Marvellous. And I was intrigued at how relaxed the chef was even though he was working with no one else and needed to cook up for 22 people, all having different stuff.
And without further waiting, here's what we had for Main Course.
Gordon and Lay Chin (my mom)
Gordon had a Australian Tenderloin Steak with red wine reduction. Served with grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes. A lovely portion and full of flavour with every bite.
My mom had the same I did. Homemade Tagliatalle tossed in cream sauce with Crayfish. Because it is homemade, the texture and taste is expressed from the hands of the chef himself. Cooked till al-denté, it made every mouthful a delight.
Me and Sarah (my sister)
My sister had an Argentinian Beef Tenderloin with red wine reduction and goose liver. Goose liver, also known as Foie Gras, is very different from a lot of livers we know of. It's soft, distinct, and very succulent. The beef was cooked to Medium, just as my sister had ordered. Also served with grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes, it was well worth what Gordon paid for.
And the dessert was absolutely the best I've tasted in say.. 1 year? Amazing how something that looked so ordinary could excite my tastebuds even as an after-meal. Amaretto, also known as Cherries, were strong but didn't overpower the taste of the milk chocolate. If only I could get my hands on that recipe. Haha.
You know what, I feel much better after blogging. I was feeling kinda down cos of some stuff. Felt I couldn't trust people, and maybe I was hurt because I trusted too much. But hey, I got over it, and I will continue to trust.
You know why? Cos I was noy trusted enough at that age. Everyone thought I was immature. But I'm going to take a step of faith. I trust you.
*smiles*
Well, that ended my night. Tomorrow Gordon invited for a hair cut that he's treating me to. Haha, looks like God blesses me. I thought I wouldn't get a hair cut this year for CNY (cos of what happened last night..), but God sent Gordon to give me a blessing. Thanks God.
Reunion Dinner is tomorrow! Haha. So happy. Same group of 4. Mom's cooking up a feast and we're having it at Gordon's place. Can't wait.
Gonna log off now. Had a long day. Hope you guys enjoy your saturday tomorrow!
God Bless!
